Day 1 of Paleo.
My son just turned 2 in November. After he was born, I was shocked at how quickly and easily I was losing the baby weight. I learned that breastfeeding alone burns 500 calories a day! Needless to say when Indy was weaned and I had to return back to work, the weight started to come back on. And in all the terrible places. Like really terrible.
My brother-in-law started talking about the Paleo diet about a year ago. He has since lost a significant amount of weight as has my sister who has a 7 month old daughter and has lost 40 lbs since Chloe’s birth. As she will attest, a lot of that weight loss is due to breastfeeding but she also feels better since eating Paleo.
I decided to give this diet a try when I realized that I could no longer fit into any of my clothes and when I’d shop for new ones, I’d never end up buying anything because I felt like I looked terrible! I’ve always been comfortable with my body and the way I look but recently, that has changed. I have never before put myself on any sort of eating restriction. I’ve never gone through a period of time where I planned to “give up” soda, carbs, chocolate, butter anything. I’ve always eaten whatever I wanted whenever I wanted. This is partially why I started this blog. I need some sort of public accountability because I will be the first to admit, when it comes to food, I have ZERO self control.
The hardest part for me will be of course- the carbs. This includes SUGAR! I love sugar! I love baking, I love chocolate, I love candy…I love lots of bad things. But I guess it wouldn’t be a “30 day Paleo Challenge” without the “challenge” part.
So far, I am ill equipped. I didn’t really think of going grocery shopping before I decided to start, and I’m afraid if I say, “Oh, I’ll start after I go grocery shopping…” that I’ll never actually start. You know? I’ve documented my day 1 food log on my facebook if you’re interested. I’ve been glued to this website and this one, trying to be sure of what foods I can and cannot eat, and I’m feeling kind of crazy. They say that the first few days are gonna be weird because you’re detoxing from all the sugar, carbs and other glutens. It’s tough!
So I figured I would document my 30 days on here, and feel free to join me! Hoping I make it through to the end! Do not be alarmed, this will not turn into a Paleo-ultra-healthy-all-the-time-the-only-thing-I-ever-talk-about blog. I promise.
